Wretched

"Wretched" is the product of Todd Friel (and others).  Here are the basics:

Todd Friel: "Todd Friel studied to be a pastor for four years but neglected to actually get saved. He abandoned church ministry plans and did secular TV, radio and stand-up comedy for 6 years. But God then saved him."

​

He has done "Wretched Radio," "Wretched TV," written books and more.  

​

For now, we are simply going to focus on his videos, of which over 1000 are available on YouTube.  Given the number available, we will gradually add videos as they are specifically recommended.  If you can't wait for our recommendations, just go to YouTube and search for "wretched," or click here to go directly to the YouTube search results.  Let us know about your favorite videos and we will add them here.  Provide editorial content, if you wish.

John MacArthur's Response to Charlottesville.

​

To be fair, it is John MacArthur and Wretched's response to Charlottesville.

​

What was the big problem in Charlottesville?  Sin, not that anyone talked about it.

​

And what is the response that Christians should make?  Watch the video.  But the key is James 2:1-9 or thereabouts.  We, as Christians, should not show partiality, whether based on race, wealth, social status, sex, whatever.  You, know, that old "content of their character" business, which seems to have been set aside these days.

This video is titled "That Woman is Mad at Christians."  And so she is.  One of the biggest complaints about Christians is that we are hypocrites.  And so we are.  We may peach the gospel, but we don't live up to it.  People that complain fail to realize that we are all sinners - Christians included - and that is the very reason that we need a Savior.  That is the very essence of the gospel message.  Becoming a Christian does not make us perfect people, only changed people.

We cannot communicate Christian truth if we keep silent.  The angry woman fails to realize that all the things she is demanding of Christians are things that she herself is probably not doing and that Christians, collectively, are doing a far better job of than non-Christians.

For our first featured "Wretched" video, we go to one titled "Joel Osteen Waffles."  Unless my hearing is worse than I thought, Osteen isn't mentioned by name.  But he features prominently.  Todd Friel just introduces and wraps.

One thing I love about Franklin Graham is that every time I see him interviewed on TV, he manages to deliver the gospel message.  I am sorry to say that while Joel Osteen may preach to millions on TV, he seems incapable of delivering the actual gospel message on secular TV.  It is possible he has the  same problem on Christian TV.

​

Far too many Christian "leaders" seem to feel the need to water down or even deny the fundamental message of Christianity.  Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6 ESV)

"The worst Christian T-shirts ever???"

The best thing about this video is his debunking of the whole "judge not" meme.  Matthew 7:1 is one of the most misused verses in the Bible.  He then goes on to judge some Christian tee-shirts.  And rightly so.

​

The first item on our Easy Evangelism page involves witnessing tee-shirts.   So let us make an important qualification concerning tee-shirts, bumper stickers and the like, which is that they should be:

  • theologically sound

  • tasteful

  • not flippant

​

Humorous is OK, if it does not violate the above.  But most importantly, remember that we are to judge (with care), whether it involves tee-shirts or things of a more serious nature.

"The gals from The View try to use the Bible to undermine the Bible."

​

This is worth a look because it demonstrates just how easy it is to take selected verses from the Bible (out of context) and misuse them.  "Judge not" is only one of many verses misused.  Sometimes no verse is even specified.  I once had a person defend abortion.  Why?  Because Jesus loves us!  

​

People who do this tend not to not know their Bible very well, but unfortunately, neither do many of their listeners.  The ladies of The View may not be able to distinguish between serving someone who happens to be a sinner (which is everyone), and actively participating in someone's sin.  And no, just because Jesus loves us and forgives us our sins, he would NOT participate in our sin.  That would make him a sinner as well.  The ladies of The View might not appreciate the significance of this, but the rest of us should.
